Yogesh Shah, M.D., is medical director of the Des Moines University Geriatric Education Center, chair of the Department of Geriatrics, College of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University, and a faculty physician with Mercy/Mayo Family Practice in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Shah is board certified by both the American Board of Family Practitioners and the American Board of Geriatrics. He is also a member of the board of directors for the Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. In 2000 he received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Alzheimer's Prevention Foundation. In 2004 Dr. Shah was certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Susan Bravard, PT, M.S., is the director of the Des Moines University Geriatric Education Center at Des Moines University. She received her Bachelor of Science in physical education with a minor in gerontology from Iowa State University, her Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from Washington University in St. Louis and her Master of Science in interdisciplinary graduate studies with an emphasis in adult education, exercise science and gerontology from Iowa State University. Her thesis was entitled "The Effect of Gender and a Geriatric Course on Physical Therapy Students' Knowledge, Attitudes Toward Older Adults and Interest in Working with Individuals 65 Years and Older". Prior to joining the GEC, Sue was a faculty member in the physical therapy program at DMU. She has presented at several national physical therapy meetings as well as allied health meetings. She is also a certified health and fitness instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine. Her areas of interest include health promotion and fitness, health care for older adults and educational outcomes research.

Lyn Abbas is the program coordinator of the DMU GEC. She works closely with the director of the GEC to ensure the GEC provides DMU students with hands-on learning opportunities with older adults through the oversight of placement of students in geriatric clinical medicine settings.

Laurie Hughell, M.S., PA-C, joined the GEC team as the geriatrics fellow in September of 2004. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of South Dakota. She then obtained her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant studies from Des Moines University in August of 2004. Her Master's project was entitled "The Role of Lipoprotein (a) in the Formation of Coronary Artery Disease", for which she was awarded a Research Award from the University. As a recipient of the College of Health Science Dean's scholarship, she is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at Des Moines University. Special interests include research and preventive medicine in older adults.

Teri Dinham joined the GEC team as administrative secretary in October 2004. Her main duties include developing the GEC web site, monitoring budgets, scheduling the Dean's calendar, time and efforts reports, managing the office and providing support for the dean of research, GEC director and director of sponsored programs.
